Andrew Milling

I earned my B.Sc. at the University of Manitoba, specializing in ecology and environmental biology. My research will focus on evaluating the effects that the removal of a key zooplankton species has on the aquatic community structure.

Mysis shrimp are an important prey species for Lake trout, and were extirpated during a whole-lake acidification experiment at the Experimental Lakes Area during the late 70’s. In the decades since the experiment has concluded, the lake has been allowed to return to pre-acidification pH levels and yet Mysishave not returned to the lake. This creates an opportunity to compare the community of the lake before the acidification, to the current community and see how the removal of an important zooplankton species can affect the community structure.
